The Windows View

I look beyond the grey cast wall

I look beyond the grey cast walls
Of what I once had known
I grew up where meadows were
And all the forest Lords
My childhood now I am remembering
For I have time to spare
No need to rush or shop or cook
As I sit warmly in my chair
I hear a bell and a friendly knock
Bella your dinners ready]
Oh to be how I used to be
My long legs used to run and skip
I gather my blankets around my waist
And totter to the door
Thank you Nurse I faintly say
And go back to my chair
But I can gaze across those paths
The mysteries of my youth
And see the house and meadows still
And the cattle grazing there
My Father used to milk the cows
When I was just a child
I used to try and help him
As I ran close to his side
Just a little child around three or four
My memory seems to fade now
As I snuggle near the warmth
I sigh again in reluctance
Of who I am and why
Gone my happy family and farm
Age is not a pretty number not even 1
Of course I know within my heart
The wall is blank and grey
No lovely meadows to steady my gaze
It is all within my memories
Of happiness inside.
